Archeoscape.ai Laboratory (co-director) [EFEO]
Founded by Damian Evans, this laboratory explores the forest civilizations of Southeast Asia by combining traditional archaeology, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence applied to imagery. It draws on more than two decades of expertise and over 7,000 km² of high-density LiDAR data covering Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Indonesia, obtained from successive projects: GAP (ARC, 1998), KALC (2012), CALI (ERC, 2015), CHAMPA (AFD, 2020), and archaeoscape.ai (ERC, 2020).
ALiS Project [EFEO / CASE / ENPC]
ALiS develops specialized machine learning methods to improve LiDAR post-processing in tropical forest environments. By automating the segmentation of 3D point clouds and standardizing existing datasets, the project enables large-scale archaeological mapping and paves the way for the creation of next-generation models for LiDAR archaeology.
DEEPFOREST project [EFEO / ENPC / AMAP / LSCE]
DEEPFOREST brings together archaeology, ecology, and machine learning to study the human footprint in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. Drawing on extensive LiDAR coverage and ecological plots, the project is developing multimodal deep learning approaches to link ancient land uses to the current composition, biomass, and dynamics of forests.
