The EFEO is part of the the Réseaux des Écoles françaises à l’Étranger (ResEFE), or Network of French Schools Abroad, and is a partner member of Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) University.

The EFEO’s long-standing partners are the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE-PSL) and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). The EFEO does not award degrees, which is why its lecturers and researchers are mainly affiliated with the doctoral schools of these two institutions, where they also teach as part of the Master’s in Asian Studies (EFEO-EHESS-EPHE).

A large number of the EFEO’s lecturers and researchers are also members of CNRS Joint Research Units (UMR) working on Asia in the field of the Humanities and Social Sciences:
