Induction ceremony for Professor Jao Tsung-I

Franciscus Verellen, EFEO director and member of the Institut de France, officiates with the president and vice-chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the permanent sectretary of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres, Institut de France, at the induction ceremony for Professor Jao Tsung-I (CUHK), jointly organized by CUHK and the Academy. Professor Jao was elected an Associate Foreign Member of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres on 7 December 2012. He was a member of the EFEO from 1974 to 1976.
Steering Committee of SEATIDE

On July 2, Franciscus Verellen is chairing the steering Committee of the European program SEATIDE (Integration in Southeast Asia: Trajectories of Inclusion, Dynamics of Exclusion), with Yves Goudineau, scientifique coordinator, and Elisabeth Lacroix, administrator of the project. This program, financed by the European Commission (PCRD7), studies integration issues in Southeast Asia at both the national and the regional level. The meeting is being held in Lisbon on the occasion of the EuroSEAS congress (July 2 to 5).
Jinchinsai ceremony in Kyoto

On Monday, July 1, work is beginning on the construction of the new building for the EFEO Center in Kyoto. The start of work was preceded by the Jinchinsai ceremony, a Shinto rite purifying and protecting the site. This took place on June 28 in the presence of the French Consul General, the Director of the EFEO, the building's architects, and the construction company, along with many friends of the EFEO. He is serving as respondent on the topic "The History of Copyright in China."
