Margherita Trento, a doctoral student at the University of Chicago has been affiliated with the EFEO from July 2016 to April 2017 and is here again from July 2017 to November 2017. She was first sponsored by a fellowship of the Committee on Southern Asian Studies (COSAS) at the University of Chicago and now by a fellowship of the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS). During her stays here she has been conducting archival research for her dissertation in Chennai, Madurai and Kodaikanal, and studying three Tamil texts by the Jesuit missionary Costanzo Giuseppe Beschi (1680-1747) —  the poems Tēmpāvaṇi and Tirukkāvalūr Kalampakam, and the grammar Toṉṉūl Viḷakkam — with N. Govindarajan (American college, Madurai), Indra Manuel (EFEO) and K. Nachimuthu (EFEO).
