Preserving and enhancing Laos heritage: signing of a new project in Champassak and Savannakhet

On February 10, 2020, at the French Embassy in Vientiane, the Director of the EFEO signed an agreement with the French Development Agency for a project to preserve and develop heritage in the provinces of Champassak and Savannahket, in the presence of the Lao Vice-Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism.
AFD and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism have designed a 6 million euro project entitled Cultural Heritage Management, Preservation and Tourist Attractiveness (CHAMPA). The project will be implemented by the Laotian authorities and the École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) for a period of 5 years.

The Director also signed an amendment to our 2018 Convention with the General Directorate of Heritage of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR, to agree to implement the operations of this new CHAMPA project. This amendment extends our cooperation agreement with the General Directorate of Heritage for the next 5 years.
