The Paris-based DHARMA project team, comprising Emmanuel Francis (CNRS, scientific leader of the project), Dorotea Operato (CNRS) and Renato Davalos (CNRS), as well as Margherita Trento (IFP), are carrying out a field mission in Tamil Nadu in August. The programme includes a week's research in the Kaveri region, followed by a week's work in Thiruvavaduthurai. Edmond de Taillac, from the École normale supérieure, Paris, is affiliated to the EFEO Centre in Pondicherry from June 14 to September 1, 2025. His research project, entitled "Jouveau-Dubreuil et les attitudes envers l'art indien pendant l'entre-deux-guerres", explores the contributions of this archaeologist and art historian, with particular emphasis on his interest in the religious imagery of South India. Bruno da Silva, a doctoral student at the École pratique des hautes études (EPHE) and EFEO scholarship holder, is coming to the Pondicherry Centre in July for a six-month visit. His research project, entitled "Édition critique du Kālottara", focuses on a complex śivaitan Āgama, transmitted in several versions of varying sizes, and aims to gain a better understanding of the place of the Kālottara in śivaitan traditions. Bérénice Bellina, CNRS researcher - UMR 8068 Temps, ERC DHARMA project (Paris), from 26 August to 20 September, and Coline Lefrancq, CNRS researcher - UMR 7041 ARSCAN, ERC DHARMA project (Paris), from 25 August to 1 October 2025, are on mission at the Pondicherry Centre. They will be carrying out a non-invasive study of archaeological materials (notably beads and pottery) linked to trade networks in the Bay of Bengal, focusing on sites in Odisha and Tamil Nadu. |
