- Wednesday 16 December : Angela Schottenhammer (Leuven University) "Storms and disease : Major perilson sea and how to handle them" Abstract: Venturing into the oceans, individuals took care about basic precautionary measures and prerequisites, especially in face of all the incalculable dangers that awaited people on sea. Storm or even taiphoons, strong ocean currents, but also diseases belonged to such threats. This presentation will introduce some examples of maritime disasters and show how people tried to prepare for and manage these challenges. It will also touch upon the question of economic considerations that played a role when ships were equipped. Link for videoconference
