As part of the Indonesian-French archaeological mission along the north coast of Central Java (PANTURAH), Véronique Degroot (EFEO) and Agustijanto Indrajaya (Pusat Penelitian Arkeologi Nasional) have carried out a survey in the district of Tegal. Thanks to this mission, 13 archaeological sites dating to the Hindu-Buddhist period have been geo-localized, as well as 2 sites from the Majapahit/Early Islamic period and 13 sites from the so-called megalithic culture.
