Communication of the translation of a Cham inscription: press conference at Dak Pơ district, Gia Lai province
04 OCTOBER 19
The Tư Lương inscription describes the actions of a 15th-century Cham king in the highland region of the Ba River (Gia Lai province). The inscription was reported in 2010 by the local authorities ; estampages were made in 2018 Khom Sreymom (musée national du Cambodge) ; a it was translated from the old Cham by Arlo Griffiths (EFEO) and included in the inventory of Champa inscription under number c. 237. The authorities of Dak Pơ district, where the stela is located, organised a press conference to publicise Arlo Griffiths’ report, translated into Vietnamese by Nguyễn Quang Tuệ (at the provincial department of culture, sport and tourism). Andrew Hardy and his colleagues, doing fieldwork in the neighbouring district of An Khê, joined in the discussion about the value of this new document for the history of Champa in the Central Highlands.
