The fieldwork aimed to collect data on the mountain trails that, in the 19th century, linked the Bình Định plain with the An Khê plateau. Andrew Hardy, Federico Barocco, Nguyễn Quang Ngọc and Nguyễn Tiến Đông identified, thanks to information obtained from the inhabitants and local authorities of Cửu An commune and An Khê town, toponyms (mountains, passes, places, etc) and other data needed for the production of a map of upstream-downstream trade routes in the region.
