Public Lecture: 'The Temple of the Forgotten Deities'
23 NOVEMBER 17
The temple is renowned for its annual festival, but no one has heard of the Buddha worshipped here in the 19th century, or the mandarins of the court who were deified in this place. In this part of Central Vietnam near the Long Wall of Quảng Ngãi, the forgetting is explained by the place’s history and its history by the local topography. In this lecture organised by the EFEO at l’Espace – French Institute of Hanoi, Andrew Hardy (historian), Đào Thế Đức (anthropologist) and Nguyễn Tiến Đông (archaeologist) present the results of their multi-disciplinary research into this place of worship since its foundation in 1869 to the present day.
