The 'Sơn Phong' fort of Dương Yên
Survey of a ‘Sơn Phòng’ fort, Quảng Nam province
01 APRIL 17
The Cần Vương anticolonial movement is the subject of fieldwork (29/3-1/4) in the province’s southern districts, conducted by Andrew Hardy and his colleagues. After a half-day of discussion with specialists at the Phan Chu Trinh Institute (Đà Nẵng), the team left for Tam Kỳ and several upland destinations. Thanks to the writer Nguyên Ngọc’s knowledge of the area, they survey Dương Yên fort – part of the network of fortifications known as Sơn Phòng – and other sites of importance for the Cần Vương in the region (1885-1887).
