Public lecture by Emmanuel Pannier & Lâm Minh Châu on 'Market economy, interpersonal exchanges and the state in northern Vietnam: strategies of accommodation of rural households faced with uncertainty', Hanoi French Institute - L'Espace.The Đổi Mới reforms have created a constantly renegotiated balance between stabiility and uncertainty: in this context, rural households deploy a range of strategies to accommodate uncertainty. While seizing the sometimes risky opportunities offered by the market, the state and their networks of contacts, they also try to find ways to make their situation safer. This ambivalence is described and illustrated through two case studies carried out in the Red River Delta.
