Date: Lundi, 12 Novembre, 2018, à 15h30.

Résumé : The history and development of archaeology in Malaysia over the past
170 years or so has witnessed a gradual change from a
speculative-descriptive nature to a scientific and interdisciplinary
approach in archaeology. This period also saw a tremendous growth of
research and knowledge on the prehistory of Malaysia. Nowadays,
archaeological work in the country is no longer the pursuit of amateurs
on a piecemeal basis but has progressed into a systematic and
scientific research program carried out by trained archaeologists.
Relevant authorities like the federal and state museums and heritage
departments have stepped up efforts to monitor, control and manage
archaeological research and development. In recent years, archaeological
practice in Malaysia has also begun to take into consideration the
involvement of indigenous peoples and their heritage values and
rights. The rich archaeological and cultural heritage of Malaysia must
be preserved and safeguarded, not only for sustainable economic interest
but also for the benefit and knowledge of our future generations.
