Networks of Temples and Networks of Texts in South India
20 JANUARY 20
This workshop, organised by Ute Hüsken, Jonas Buchholz, both from the University of Heidelberg, will take place from 20 to 26 January 2020, within the framework of the project “Temple Networks in Early Modern South India”, which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The workshop aims to explore temple networks in South India through their representation in Sanskrit and Tamil texts, in iconography, and architecture, with particular focus on the city of Kancipuram, where different Hindu traditions—Śaivism, Vaiṣṇavism, and Śāktism—have not only coexisted, but also interacted and competed for centuries.
