Hephzibah Israel (University of Edinburgh) received the BASAS-ECAF Fellowship 2014 to spend 8 weeks at the Pondicherry EFEO Centre to pursue her research on pre-colonial (pre-18th century) conventions of "life writing" and "autobiography" in the Tamil literary traditions.  
The findings from this period of research will contribute to a larger collaborative and comparative research project on the writing and translation of "conversion autobiographies" in Tamil and Marathi that she is developing.
