Joseph Skarbek (1879-1961) : la voie ferrée Kaifeng - Luoyang 1906-1909
A selection of 80 of the 500 photographs taken by Joseph Skarbek in the course of his stay in province of Henan (Central China) form 1906 to 1909.
The pictures are remarkable for their artistic qualities, and they also constitute a valuable historical record of the modern era in this region, which had been only visited by a few archaeological expeditions at that time.
The online exhibition is divided into three sections: Skarbek's work as an engineer, as an artist, and as an amateur anthropologist.

The exhibition on "The Five French Settlements in India as Recorded in Eighteenth-Century Plans (1673-1824)" is held from January 19 to January 28, 2021, at the Institut français de Pondichéry (IFP).Organized jointly by the IFP, the Alliance française de Pondichéry, and the EFEO Center in Pondicherry, this exhibition, conceived and directed by Jean Deloche, is held as part of the Pondicherry Heritage Festival 2021.This exhibition is an introduction to the history of the former French settlements in India and an inventory of their disappeared monuments.
