Chinese Rubbings in Europe

The Estampages chinois conservés en Europe database has been developed thanks to the financial support of the CCK Foundation. It is the result of a collective work realised under the direction of Prof. Jean-Pierre Drège, and by Richard Schneider, who has developed the program of this database.

The Chinese rubbings presented here belong to some French institutions as the Société asiatique (SA), the Ecole française d'Extrême-Orient (EF), the Institut des hautes études chinoises (IH), the Guimet Museum (MG), as well as to European collections such the Rietberg Museum in Zürich (ZR), the Bodleian Library in Oxford (OB), the British Library (BL) and the  British Museum (BM) in London, the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm (SF) and the National Galery in Prague (NG).

XXXIIIrd Seoul Colloquium in Korea Studies

The XXXIIIrd Seoul Colloquium in Korea Studies, organized by the EFEO Center in Seoul, in collaboration with the Royal Asiatic Society, is led by Bernard Sénécal (Professor Emeritus at Sogang University) on the theme: "Life and Works of Seon 禪 Master Seongcheol 性徹 (1912-1993) - the most famous Korean Buddhist monk in the 20th century".
At 6 p.m. at the EFEO Center in Seoul.

Le Réseau des Écoles françaises à l’étranger (École française d’Athènes, École française de Rome, Institut français d’archéologie orientale, École française d’Extrême-Orient, et Casa de Velázquez) condamne avec force l’insoutenable acte de barbarie perpétré contre le professeur d’histoire-géographie du collège du Bois-d’Aulne, à Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), survenu vendredi 16 octobre.

''Kitashirakawa EFEO Salon''

As part of the Kitashirakawa EFEO Salon, the fifth lecture of the 2019-2020 cycle is presented by Markus Ruesch (Ryukoku University) on the topic: "Secret spaces for Amida: the function of hidden spaces in the rites of Pure Land Buddhism and their doctrinal foundations (Edo period)" (in Japanese without translation).
The conference will be broadcasted online via Zoom and on site at the EFEO Center in Kyoto (limited to 10 auditors, upon registration). More information
Colloquium ''Ancient Japanese Book Collection of the Social Sciences Library - Issues and Potential''

On October 14 the Institute of Social Sciences Information in Hanoi, which holds part of the collections of the former EFEO library, organized a colloquium on the Japanese collection, entitled: Ancient Japanese Book Collection of the Social Sciences Library - Issues and Potential.
The director of the EFEO, Christophe Marquet, gave a talk on the history of this collection, which was created at the beginning of the 20th century by the first EFEO Japanese scholars, and on works concerning the artistic heritage.
