On September 3, 2021, EFEO Kyoto collaborated in the organization of an exhibition and a roundtable discussion on Ōtsu-e and their reception in France, at Sakaimaichi Gallery (Kyoto) .

This event was organized as a part of the program “A historical study on the correlation between Ōtsu-e and the performing arts in the Edo period” led by Suzuki Kenkō (Seika University, Kyoto), with the support of Christophe Marquet (EFEO) and Yokoya Ken'ichirō (Ōtsu City Museum of History).

About thirty participants appreciated about fifteen Ōtsu-e paintings from the Edo period, from private collections, some of which had been displayed in 2019 at the Maison de la culture du Japon, in the Ôtsu-e exhibition, Popular paintings of Japan: From the Ōtsu-e painters in the 17th century to Miró.
