Discovery at Wat Cho Lae in Mae Taeng
30 NOVEMBER 11
After the general meeting of the EFEO in Chiang Mai, François Lagirarde and Phongsathorn Buakhampan went to Wat Cho Lae in Mae Taeng (Chiang Mai province) to examine a collection of manuscripts mentioned in a old inventory. Much to their surprise, they discovered that this monastic library is much larger than previously thought: it is stored inside six large traditional chests containing hundreds of palm leaves manuscripts (a thousand?) and many pap-sa, or manuscripts on mulberry paper, entirely new (photo). The head of the monastery allowed them to return in January to proceed with the digitization of the titles belonging to the corpus of traditional chronicles.
