On June 13 Christophe Pottier, Mitch Hendrickson and Martin Polkinghorne are organizing a seminar at the Siam Society in Bangkok entitled "The Archaeology of Sites and Landscapes: Papers in Honour of Damian Evans" in collaboration with the EFEO Centre in Bangkok and the Siam Society, with the support of the ERC Archaeoscape.ai.

Adam Wijker, doctoral student at the EFEO for the Archaeoscape.ai project, is at the Chiang Mai Center from May 15 to July 2 as part of his thesis on a cartographic and quantitative analysis of settlement patterns in the Khmer world (der the direction of François Giligny and Christophe Pottier).

Vissa Chanthaphasouk, doctoral student at the EFEO for the CHAMPA project, is visiting the EFEO Center in Chiang Mai from June 14 to 19 as part of her thesis on an architectural study of the temple of Vat Phu under the direction of Jean-Sebastien Cluzel and Christophe Pottier.

Adam Wijker, Vissa Chanthaphasouk and Christophe Pottier will be attending the International Conference on Southeast Asian Archaeology and Fine Arts (SPAFACON 2024) organised by the SEAMEO SPAFA in Bangkok from 10 to 13 June.

As part of the Archaeoscape.ai project conceived by Damian Evans and funded by the ERC, Christophe Pottier, Adam Wijker, Rampa Meador, Buakhampan Phonsathorn (EFEO) and Jean-Baptiste Chevance (ADF) are completing a field mission in preparation for the lidar acquisition campaign to be carried out from June 2 to 10 in Thailand. This campaign, the preparation of which has received decisive support from the EFEO Centre in Bangkok since the beginning of the year, is being carried out in collaboration with the Fine Arts Department and will cover the World Heritage sites of Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai and Kamphaeng Phet, covering a total area of almost 400km2.

- Roberta Zollo, doctoral student in Hamburg, for the completion of her thesis co-directed by Arlo Griffiths and entitled "Buffalo Divination Sacrifice in the Batak Highland of North Sumatra: Investigating the Corpus of Porbuhitan Manuscripts".
- Zakariya Pamuji Aminullah, doctoral student in Hamburg, to work on his thesis co-supervised by Arlo Griffiths and entitled "Tracing the Life of an Old Javanese Poetological Treatise: A Study of the Candrakiraṇa and its Manuscript Transmission".
- Salomé Pichon, doctoral student in Paris, to work on her thesis co-directed by Arlo Griffiths, and entitled "Epigraphic data for the study of agrarian systems in ancient Cambodia and Campā (9th-10th centuries)".

S. Saravanan will be giving a paper entitled "Negative Constructions in Early Tamil" at the 51st All-India Conference on Dravidian Lingustics (AICDL) at Tamil University, Thanjavur, from 27 to 29 June 2024.

In June, Devahar Vijayan joins the DiPiKa project team (a project to catalogue Kerala manuscripts) in Thrissur (Kerala) as a photographer.

CHAMPA PROJECT

Following the major fires that broke out at the edge of the Vat Phou site, clean-up operations and photogrammetric surveys were carried out, supervised by Vissa Chanthaphasouk with the assistance of the Lidar team to complete the acquisition of the 3D model of the Vat Phou site.

The updating of the inventory of the Savannakhet museum's collections, completed at the end of May with the help of Michel Lorrillard (EFEO Vientiane) and under the supervision of Bertrand Porte, will enable us to complete the museography synopsis for the Savannakhet museum renovation project drawn up as a team under the direction of Brice Vincent.

Alain Arrault, Michela Bussotti, Paola Calanca and Fabienne Jagou will be taking part in the introductory day "Sources, Mediations and Production of Knowledge", a research area of the UMR CCJ, on Tuesday 4 June, Cordorcet Campus, Room 3.02, 3rd floor of the Conference Centre.

Paola Calanca is organising a workshop on 20 and 27 June with students from the seminar on maritime Asia (EHESS) to revise and add notes to the translations of chapters 5 and 7 of the Dong Xi yang kao.

As part of the project La cartographie de l'Extrême-Orient à la BNF, construction et composition d'une collection nationale (XVIIe-XXe siècle) supported by the BNF, Paola Calanca and Vera Dorofeeva-Lichtmann (EHESS) are co-organising an international workshop on 28 and 29 June. On 28 June there will be a presentation by Eve Netchine, Catherine Hofmann and Julie Garel-Grislin, two papers by Richard Pegg and Elke Papelitzky on "The Blue Maps and their polychrome congeners: the BnF examples" and one by Yang Yulei on "General maps of the Chinese Empire at the BnF: sharing a research experience". On 29 June there will be a round table discussion on the project, with contributions from Patrick Beillevaire, Marco Caboara, Paola Calanca, Mario Cams, Vera Dorofeeva-Lichtmann, Diana Lange, Lin Hong, Soh Jeanhyoung, and with the participation of Elke Papelitzky, Richard Pegg and Yang Yulei.

In the framework of the international workshop co-organised by the EFEO and the University of Cambridge on 24-25 June in the Maison de l’Asie, Hugo David will give a communication titled "A Whiff of Mīmāṃsā. Appayya Dīkṣita’s Śivamahimakalikāstuti and its Commentary by Tyāgarāja Makhin."

On Monday 17 June, starting at 2pm at the École pratique des hautes études, Luca Gabbiani will take part in the jury for Xavier Paulès's habilitation to direct research (maître de conférences, École des hautes études en sciences sociales), for which he was rapporteur.

Hélène Njoto will be visiting the United Kingdom from 29 May to 15 June. She has been invited to speak on the ALIPH-EFEO conservation project in Ambon at two study days entitled The Challenge of Conservation, organised by the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge University. On her return to Jakarta, she will be returning to Ambon from 19 to 30 June with her partner Michael Feener.
