The 16th Classical Tamil Seminar will be back to winter schedule and take place from February 12 to March 9 2018 at the Puducherry centre of the EFEO. The main texts will be the ParipaaTal (weeks 1+2) and the KalinkattuparaNi (weeks 3-4). A beginner's course will be conducted in parallel to this.

The 15th CTSS will take place from 18th to 22th September 2017. We plan to split the day into two morning reading sessions for the principal text and a choice of afternoon reading sessions devoted to selected texts from different genres of Tamil literature.

The 12th Classical Tamil Summer Seminar (CTSS) will take place this summer during August. We plan to have three reading sessions a day, two the morning and one the afternoon.

The 11th CTSS will take place this summer in the second half of August, just after the workshop on the Archaeology of Bhakti. We plan to have three reading sessions a day, the first dedicated to selected songs from the Pattuppāṭṭu - the Caṅkam anthology of long songs - beginning with the Mullaippāṭṭu. The second session will introduce Tamil commentary literature with passages from Nakkīraṉ's commentary on the Iṟaiyaṉār Akapporuḷ, the third session will address the representation and quotation of poetry in epigraphic literature.

Reopening of the EFEO Library by APPOINTMENT

From Monday 6 July 2020, the library reading room will open a limited number of places, by appointment. These places are reserved for advanced students (M1, M2 and PhD) and researchers in Asian studies wishing to consult the collections of the Maison de l'Asie. For practical reasons, we ask readers to reserve their documents at least 24 hours in advance. Reserved works will be pre-deposited on a table when the reader arrives. Reservations are made as usual on the library catalogue, via the reader account: catalogue.bulac.fr.

These places are reserved for advanced students (M1, M2 and PhD) and researchers in Asian studies wishing to consult the collections of the Maison de l'Asie. For practical reasons, we ask readers to reserve their documents at least 24 hours in advance. Reserved works will be pre-deposited on a table when the reader arrives. Reservations are made as usual on the library catalogue, via the reader account: catalogue.bulac.fr.

When the maximum number of open places is reached, the reservation date disappears from the drop-down menu.Reading places will be open for reservation every Thursday for the following week.

The Maison de l'Asie and the library are closed to the public from March 16 until further notice.

All cultural and scientific events are cancelled.

CEFC-EFEO Young Researchers' Day 2020.

The EFEO Center in Taipei and the Taipei branch of the CEFC (Centre d'études français sur la Chine contemporaine) are organizing the CEFC-EFEO Young Researchers' Day 2020.

Yannis-Adam Allouache (National University of Singapore), Joachim Boittout (EHESS), Marta Pavone (INALCO), Skaya Siku (Institute of Ethnology, Academia Sinica), and Vladimir Stolojan (Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica) will present the results of their research with a teaching team led by Nathanael Amar (CEFC) and Frank Muyard (EFEO).

François Lachaud (EFEO) speaks on: "Les Chemins hantés du nord : Bouddhisme et société locale dans le Japon moderne (1700-2000)" [The Haunted Paths of the North: Buddhism and Local Society in Modern Japan (1700-2000)] as part of the PSL-EHESS-EPHE-EFEO Master in Asian Studies, the general theme of which is "Dynamiques religieuses : traditions et innovations".
