Hanoi, winter 2002: in the heart of the city, Vietnamese archaeologists reveal vestiges of the imperial citadel of Thăng Long. The history of this discovery is the subject of the book Phát lộ di tích Hoàng Thành Thăng Long. Thoáng nhìn đầu tiên về di sản khảo cổ học Hà Nội [The Discovery of Thăng Long Imperial Citadel: First Glimpses of Hanoi’s Archaeological Heritage]. The book relates the excavation as it was experiences by the archaeologists who uncovered the vestiges. It presents new historical research written from the dig’s results, and the first proposals for the site’s conservation and development as heritage.
The book is launched at a round table held at the French Institute in Hanoi-L’Espace (participants: Tống Trung Tín, Nguyễn Gia Đối, Nguyễn Tiến Đông, Andrew Hardy).
