As part of the Hanoi millennial celebrations, the EFEO and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences worked on a joint project for the creation of an archaeological museum, inaugurated on 2 October 2010 in a ceremony presided by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nguyễn Sinh Hùng, in the presence of the French Ambassador Jean-François Girault and the Director of the EFEO. On display at the museum is a selection of artefacts uncovered since 2002 at the Imperial Citadel site at 18 Hoàng Diệu St. The exhibition space comprises five rooms on the five main dynasties of the past thousand years. In parallel, the EFEO centre organised a temporary exhibition at l’Espace – French Cultural Centre on the transformation and dismantling of the Hanoi citadel in the 19th century; this exhibition was transferred to the citadel site on 2 October.
