In Southeast Asia 'integration' is often a slogan for politicians and political scientists. But in this public lecture organised by the EFEO at the French Cultural Institute (L'Espace) in Hanoi, a panel of speakers address the question: how do the realities of an integrating region impact on the lives of ordinary people, in the cities, towns, homes and workplaces of Southeast Asia? The observations of anthropologists, sociologists and historians about the forms integration takes on the ground – made during recent field research funded by the European Commission (project SEATIDE www.seatide.eu) – offer a panorama of Southeast Asian modernity.
