Title: Archaeology of Atauro: Pleistocene and Holocene Occupations of a Small Island in the Eastern Sunda Chain
 Date : Tuesday,  october 31 2017, 2:00 p.m.
Venue: Room 703, Research Building, IHP, Academia Sinica, Taipei City

Abstract:
Recent research in the small island of Atauro, East of Alor in the lesser Sunda islands, have revealed a Pleistocene occupation so far dated to 18000 BP. In Aleti Tunu Bibi, excavation confirms the ancient use of obsidian and attest of a probably Pleistocene rock art tradition in the island. In addition, in Lepu Kina, a second cave site, well stratified and preserved Neolithic deposits help understand the nature of interactions in the Sunda islands around 3000 BP. These finds will be discussed in the general frame of Timor cultural chronology.
