The end of Hillary Langberg's stay
28 FEBRUARY 18
Hillary Langberg, a doctoral student in Buddhist Studies and Sanskrit at the University of Texas at Austin (Dept. of Asian Studies) has spent the last 6 months at the Pondicherry Centre, thanks to a Junior Research Fellowship accorded by the American Insitute of Indian Studies. She is looking at the position and function of female deities in Mahāyāna Indian Buddhism between the 2nd and the 7th centuries CE, examining both texts and Deccan cave sculpture, and using the Mañjuśriyamūlakalpa as a starting point, passages from which she read with Dominic Goodall during her stay.
