C. Pottier @ National Museum Bangkok: From Greater Angkor to Angkor
14 JUNE 13
On June 14th, C. Pottier will give a public presentation entitled "From Greater Angkor to Angkor" at the National Museum Bangkok for the National Museum Volunteers (NMV).http://www.museumvolunteersbkk.net/html/activities_prog.html
The great medieval settlement of Angkor in Cambodia [9th–16th centuries Common Era] has for many years been understood both as a "mandala" and a “hydraulic city,” a succession of geometric enclosed cities sustained and ultimately overwhelmed by a complex water management network. Since the 1990s, French, Australian, and Cambodian teams have sought to collect new data on the landscape beyond the great temples and to reappraise the urban history of the territory of Angkor. Christophe Pottier of the Ecole Française d’Extrème Orient will introduce some of the major outcomes of that recent research by presenting an overlook of the genesis, development and demise of the Greater Angkor.
