Stones and Images

Photo Library

For many years, the EFEO Centre in Pondicherry housed a photo library consisting of photos taken by researchers during their field missions. The collection was transferred a few years ago to the French Institute in Pondicherry (IFP). On the other hand, the numerous field missions carried out under the aegis of the EFEO Centre at Pondicherry have made it possible to collect a large number of digital images. These photographs, of which there is an increasing quantity, constitute a substantial database which may eventually become a photo library. In the long-term, part of the database will be available online to scholars. Working alongside N. Ramaswamy (chauffeur and guide) and G. Ravindran (photographer), Valérie Gillet is responsible for organizing and developing the collection. A large number of field missions will be required to enrich the collection. The team is capable of covering an average of two sites per month.
