In 2009-2010, the French School of Asian Studies built a new library on the grounds of its Chiang Mai Centre. The new buildings are scheduled to open to the public in spring 2011. The EFEO library in Chiang Mai now holds a considerably enlarged collection of approximately 50 000 volumes in the fields of Thai and Southeast Asian Studies and the history of Theravada Buddhism in the region.

In addition to its monograph holdings, the library also comprises a major collection of periodicals in Thai, mostly on Buddhist subjects, but also in the fields of literary and cultural history. The available journals in English and French focus on Asian, Southeast Asian, Buddhist and religious studies.
