Meeting of the Theravada Buddhist Civilization Project (December 18th, 2014)

The members of the "Theravada Civilization Project" (http://theravadaciv.org) - an international research group led by Prof. J. Schober (Arizona State University) and S. Collins (University of Chicago) gathered in the EFEO Center in Chiang Mai from December 17th to December 19th 2014. More than twenty experts and participants at some of the largest universities in the United States, Canada, Britain, France and Thailand led the seminar first, in which the following topics were discussed: Mapping and Belonging, Gender, Monastic Controversies, National Belonging/Citizenship. Discussions on two sessions were held; the first focused on the film "Friends in High Places", and the second was on the recent book by Kate Crosby, Theravada buddhism, Continuity, Diversity, and Identity, published in 2014.
